Navier Gene are a three-piece band featuring Eddi Pickard, a well know metal-artist and musician from Hull, UK.
I was approached by the band to create a music video for their title track on an upcoming album release. As soon as I opened my inbox and heard this song I knew I wanted to create the music video…I was hooked!
The video plays hommage to many music videos of the past that feature bands cruising in an old school chevy and have a few hidden gems linking the band’s local city.
My role in this project
Tools & Apps used
Style frames & digital illustration
Here are a selection of style frames and digital illustrations from the project. I used many techniques to add get a rough and grungy textured style to the video, matching the band’s genre.
I was also asked to create the artwork of the single and output a set of video loops to create hype before the launch.
Storyboards, Sketching & Animatics
To produce an animation of this length it takes a lot of planning to keep it creative yet to a reasonable timeline and budget. In order to keep moving forward quickly, sketches and animatics are created and talked over with the band. This makes sure everyone is on the same page and happy with the direction before moving on to digital style frames, basic animation and timing, and then final animation and details.
Here are just a handful of sketches and animatics from the project.
