Introduction
Navier Gene is a three-piece band featuring Eddi Pickard, a well-known metal artist and musician from Hull, UK.
The band approached me to create a music video for the title track of their upcoming album release. From the moment I heard the song, I was hooked and knew I wanted to be part of this project.
The video pays homage to classic music videos featuring bands cruising in an old-school Chevy and includes hidden gems that connect to the band’s local city.
Tools & Apps used
Style frames & digital illustration
Here is a selection of style frames and digital illustrations from the project. I employed various techniques to achieve a rough, grungy textured style for the video, perfectly aligning with the band’s genre.
Additionally, I was tasked with creating the single’s artwork and producing a set of video loops to generate hype before the launch.
Storyboards, Sketching & Animatics
Producing an animation of this length requires meticulous planning to maintain creativity while adhering to a reasonable timeline and budget. To keep the project on track, I created sketches and animatics, which were reviewed with the band. This process ensured everyone was aligned and satisfied with the direction before progressing to digital style frames, basic animation, timing, and then final animation with details.
Here are a few sketches and animatics from the project.
