Freelance Web Designer for Agencies
Senior design your agency can rely on
I work with creative and digital agencies as a senior design partner. Web and UI projects delivered under your banner, to your standards, without the overhead of a full-time hire. I have spent the better part of a decade working in and around agencies, so I know how they operate and what good looks like.

Why agencies work with me
A senior design partner who understands how agencies work
I know how agencies operate because I have worked in them. I understand briefs, I work to tight timelines, I communicate clearly with clients, and my handover files build the way they should. You get the quality of a senior designer without the salary, super, and desk space that comes with hiring one full time.
Senior quality without the full-time cost
Hiring a senior designer full time is expensive and inflexible. Working with me gives your agency access to senior web and UI design on a project basis, for a busy period, or as an ongoing arrangement. No salary, no super, no equipment, no management overhead.
Fits into how your agency works
I work in whatever tools your team uses. Slack, Notion, Jira, your own project setup. I adapt to how you communicate and deliver rather than asking you to change anything. Most agency partners tell me I feel like part of the team from the first project.
Expand what your agency can take on
Web and UI design, design systems, WordPress builds, Figma component libraries, WCAG accessibility, illustration, and motion. Skills agencies often need on specific projects but cannot justify keeping in-house full time. Having me available means your agency can say yes to more work.

“Working with Ash as a fellow designer was a great experience. He understood the brief quickly, worked confidently within the existing brand, and produced work that genuinely elevated what we had. Tristan Johnstone

“Ash was a strong addition to the ThreeScoops team. He operates at a senior level across web, UI and brand, and consistently delivered work that clients were genuinely excited about. PC Le Roux
Art Director @ ThreeScoops Creative
“From a developer’s perspective, Ash is exactly who you want designing the things you have to build. His files are well-organised, his components are logical, and he actually understands how things get built. He’s easy to collaborate with during a build and always open to a conversation if something needs to be adjusted. It genuinely makes the development process smoother when Ash has done the design work.”
Lluis Mioche Grases,
Senior Developer @ BJM Digital
“Ash was a core part of the BJM Digital team for six years and his contribution to the agency was significant. He brought a level of craft and consistency to every project that clients noticed and appreciated, and he played a real role in helping us grow our digital offering. He’s the kind of designer who takes ownership of his work and makes everyone around him better. I’d recommend him without reservation.”
Ben McIntyre,
Director @ BJM Digital
“Ash is one of the most reliable designers I have worked with. He hit his deadlines, communicated clearly, and consistently produced work that clients got excited about. The feedback we received from clients about working with Ash was always positive, which says a lot.”
Matthew Woods,
Digital Optimisation @ DuluxGroup
“Working with Ash was straightforward in the best possible way. He understood briefs quickly, delivered work that rarely needed significant revision, and clients genuinely enjoyed working with him. We regularly got unsolicited positive feedback from clients about Ash specifically, which is not something you can say about every designer.”
Stuart Goss,
Senior Project Manager @ Jetstar
How I work with agencies
From first brief to final handover, here is what working together looks like
Tools & Apps

01. Initial Conversation
A quick call or message to understand what you need, how the engagement would work, and whether it is a good fit. No lengthy onboarding process, just a straightforward conversation about the project or the arrangement.
Project or Retainer
I work on a project rate for defined scope, or a day rate for ongoing or flexible arrangements. Both work well depending on how your agency operates.
NDA and Confidentiality
Happy to sign NDAs before any project details are shared. Confidentiality is standard practice and not something that needs chasing.
Availability Check
I am upfront about capacity. If I cannot fit a project in without compromising the quality of work, I will say so rather than overcommit.
02. Brief and Onboarding
Once we are aligned I get up to speed on the project, the client, and the brand. The faster I understand the context, the faster I produce work that is on brief. I ask questions early rather than coming back with revisions later.
Brand and Asset Review
Reviewing existing brand guidelines, assets, and reference material so I understand the visual language before any design work begins.
Client Context
Understanding the client, their audience, and any sensitivities before interacting with them directly. Particularly important for client-facing engagements.
Timeline and Milestones
Agreeing on deliverable dates and check-in points so your agency has visibility on progress and nothing comes as a surprise.
03. Design and Delivery
I get on with the work. Progress updates at agreed milestones, quick communication when decisions need making, and deliverables that arrive on time. I do not need constant oversight to produce good work. That is the point of working with someone senior.
Figma Design Files
Production-quality Figma files, well-organised and named, ready for client presentation or developer handover without additional cleanup from your team.
Client Presentations
Comfortable presenting work to clients directly when the engagement requires it. I can explain design decisions clearly to non-designers without undermining the agency relationship.
Revision Management
Handling client feedback professionally and moving through revisions efficiently. Scope changes flagged early so your agency is not caught out on budget.
04. Developer Handover
Clean, thorough handover files your development team can build from without chasing answers. Properly named layers, component documentation, interaction notes, and responsive specs included as standard.
Figma Dev Mode Ready
Files structured for Figma Dev Mode with component specs, spacing tokens, and style references accessible without manual annotation.
Interaction and Motion Notes
Animations, transitions, hover states, and interactive behaviour documented clearly so developers know exactly what to build.
Build Support
Available during the build phase to answer developer questions, review in-progress work, and make sure the final product matches the design.
05. Ongoing Partnership
The agencies I work best with are the ones I build a long-term relationship with. Over time I get to know your clients, your standards, and the way your team works, which makes every subsequent project faster and smoother. I am not looking for one-off jobs.
Retainer Arrangements
For agencies that need consistent design support I am open to ongoing retainer arrangements. Guaranteed availability, faster onboarding on new projects, and a partner who knows your standards.
First Call for New Work
Agencies I work with regularly get first call when I have capacity. The relationship works both ways.
Expanding What You Offer
As I get to know your agency I can help identify where design can add more value for your clients, whether that is new service offerings, better deliverables, or specialist work you have not been able to take on before.

Agency partnership questions
Common questions from agencies about working with a freelance design partner
What kind of agencies do you work with?
Creative, digital, and marketing agencies of all sizes across Melbourne and Australia. Whether you need someone to handle overflow work, take on a specific project, or embed as a senior designer for a longer engagement, I can fit around how your agency operates.
Will our clients know you are not in-house?
Only if you want them to. I work under your agency’s banner and can be introduced as a team member, a specialist partner, or not introduced at all. It is your call entirely.
Can you work directly with our clients?
Yes. I am comfortable presenting work, running workshops, and managing client feedback directly. I understand that client relationships are your agency’s most valuable asset and I treat them accordingly.
What disciplines can you cover for our agency?
Web strategy and design, UI and product design, design systems, Figma component libraries, WordPress theme builds, responsive design, WCAG accessibility, illustration, and motion. Most agencies find they can take on a wider range of work by having me available as a partner.
How do you handle tight agency deadlines?
Reliably. I have been delivering agency work to tight deadlines for over a decade. I flag issues early, communicate clearly, and do not let things slip without a conversation first. I know what a missed deadline costs an agency.
Do you sign NDAs?
Yes, without hesitation. Confidentiality is standard practice for agency work and I am happy to sign NDAs before any project details are shared.
What are your rates for agency work?
I work on a day rate or project rate depending on the engagement. Get in touch and I can give you a clear quote once I understand the scope. I am open to ongoing retainer arrangements for agencies that need consistent design support.
What makes you different from other freelance designers?
Senior experience across web, UI, brand, and motion, not a narrow specialist. I understand the full process from strategy through to developer handover, I know how agencies operate, and I produce work that is genuinely ready to present or build without your team having to tidy it up first.
